How to Wake Up in The Morning

Anybody can be a morning person, here’s how:



My friends have always asked me how to wake up in the morning. I am my best self when the sun rises, always have been. Even during the days of slumber and sullenness (teen times!) were considerably OK for me to rise and shine before commuting an hour to college. 


It is all about making it a habit, but even then I like to lie-in. Cut the crap with the perfect morning routine - it doesn't exist, it is a personal thing. Let’s not lie, those entrepreneurs and successful seniors also must sleep longer some days… We need it. Laziness is good for the soul every now and then. 


There is no one-trick on how to wake up in the morning, but I am a firm believer anybody can be a morning person, so here’s how I do it (with no BS included) because:

The toilet is the first stop!


First things first — does everyone wake up needing a wee? I am pretty sure it isn’t just me(!) So this is what I do. Go to the toilet, then wash my face and feel ace. (The water must be cold or I am not properly alive at times.) Once that is done, I brush my teeth and I’m ready for the morning routine. 


I even sing “I’m fresh” when this 3 step ritual is done (because most of the time I feel it). How to wake up in the morning? Do your deeds!


Put the kettle on

I feel ya, this is literally it for me  because tea restores my energy. Tea is the answer to everything.


Stretching  (aka yoga!)


Yoga is my natural cup of coffee. Tea aside, now let’s roll out the mat and really wake up. This routine is just something I do naturally now. After four years of practising yoga, my day can be a disaster if a merely 5-minute sun salutation hasn't been exercised. I even notice that my mood isn’t the best if I don’t stretch.

Maybe you don’t like yoga, but just a simple stretch of the arms and legs will allow your body to begin the day the right way.


Eat breakfast, read, pray, write


Breakfast is key, Winnie the Pooh says so:

“When you wake up in the morning, Pooh,” said Piglet at last, “what’s the first thing you say to yourself?”
“What’s for breakfast?” said Pooh. “What do you say, Piglet?”
“I say, I wonder what’s going to happen exciting today?” said Piglet.
Pooh nodded thoughtfully. “It’s the same thing,” he said.” ― A.A. Milne

Then I open my bible and pray. This sets my mindset to be hopeful, grateful for God’s blessing to live another day.


Get on with your day
